PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis squad faced Portland today (Feb. 21) and defeated them 5-2 at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore. The Eagles collect their first win of the season and move to a 1-4 overall record.
The Eagles defeated the Pilots in doubles play, with
Jennifer Kida and
Scout Mathews at No.2 doubles and
Louise Waite and
Yasmin Mansouri at No.3, to gain an early 1-0 lead on the day.
Jennifer Kida and
Zoey Nelson took down their opponents in singles play which gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage in the match, as
Louise Waite sealed the victory.
Yasmin Mansouri picked up her second singles victory in a row to round out the fifth point for EWU.
"Great team effort today to get this win. We knew it would be a tough battle against Portland because they always have a hard-fighting, talented team. It took every player to go out and fight for every point out there to come out on top," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "I'm really happy for the team to get the win and feel the success. We've been putting in the hours on the court and it's always good to have some results to back that up. We've been building our mental toughness and it showed today by the way we were able to stay tough in the right moments."
