LEWISTON, Idaho. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team defeated Lewis-Clark State 7-0 today (March 21) at the LCSC Tennis Center in Lewiston, Idaho. The Eagles sit with a 4-8 overall record as they look to open Big Sky Conference play following spring break.
"This was a really great way to button up our non-conference schedule. I'm really proud of all of my players. They have faced the toughest non-conference schedule we have ever faced and they have learned from some really tough moments," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "It all came together today. We played with ambition, grit, positive energy, and support. I'm really proud of the way our senior captains stepped up in doubles play and the way
Zoey Nelson responded to a really tough first set in singles."
The Eagles dominated over LC State, allowing only 10 total points to be scored against them in all competitions in singles and doubles play.
In singles play, Eastern defeated LC State in two sets in each singles spot except for at the No.4 spot in which
Zoey Nelson won after three sets.
"Things didn't go her (Nelson) way in the first set but she picked herself up and dominated the second and third sets," added Hinson. "That's how a leader leads and it was amazing to watch her fight through those tough moments. We are super excited to move into conference play and we are ready to bring our best to the courts."
