MOLALLA, Ore. – The Eastern Washington University golf team completed the final day at the Big Sky Conference Championships shooting 313 strokes to finish in eighth place with a total of 947 strokes at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore. The Eagles shot their lowest score of the conference tournament today (April 21), after shooting 320 strokes on day one and 314 strokes on day two, with the assistance of
Jaelin Ishikawa who finished in the top-ten with 225 strokes.
Â
"I'm really proud of how we finished today. A couple of the ladies had a disastrous start, and that makes it extremely tough on the team aspect of the round.
Stephanie Chelack and
Alexa Clark had amazing finishes to help save our team score," said head coach
Brenda Howe. "
Jaelin Ishikawa played outstanding today. She posted an under-par round which is one of the best rounds of the tournament. We've had an up and down season, and I'm pleased with how we finished the year on a really hard course."
Jaelin Ishikawa, who earned an All-Big Sky Honorable mention nod last week, shot 225 (80, 75, 70) strokes to individually finish tied for eighth, setting a new career-low by five strokes and the mark is also tied for ninth all-time in EWU history at the conference championships. Her one-round total of 70 (-2) in round three is tied for the third lowest in EWU history at the Big Sky Championships and is tied for 15th all-time.
Â
In the second and third rounds, she compiled 145 (75, 70) strokes which ranks inside the top-20 all time at Eastern Washington. The finish marked the fourth top-ten finish of Ishikawa's career and is the fifth-straight year an Eagle has finished in the top-ten at the championships.
Â
Additionally, she is the 24th Eagle to earn a top-ten finish at the championships.
The Eagles finished 11 strokes ahead of Montana (958), 26 strokes ahead of Montana State (973) and 36 strokes ahead of Idaho State (983).
Sacramento State won the title after shooting 901 (298, 304, 299) strokes, eight strokes ahead of second place Northern Arizona (909).
