BOX SCORE
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis squad competed in the semifinals of the 2021 Big Sky Tennis Championship today (May 1) and fell 4-2 to No.2 South Division seed Weber State at the Phoenix Tennis Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Today's loss marks the end of the 2021 spring season in which the Eagles finished 8-9 overall and 4-0 in regular conference play, finishing with a 5-1 record in their last six matches.
"Today was no different than how we have been playing all season with no give and no quitting, which was everything that I asked of them. It is tough to get defeated, but credit to Weber State because they played tough as well. We had good chances and the effort was there and I am proud of the team for that," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "I am excited about our freshman
Jennifer Kida at the No.1 singles spot and her future here with us. She has gotten better throughout the season and finished the season strong. Also, a really good job with our senior captains at the No.1 doubles spot by going out and clinching the doubles point for us."
The Eagles took an early lead collecting the doubles point after wins from the duo of
Rylee Braeden and
Zoey Nelson at No.1 and the pair of
Jennifer Kida and
Renata Gabuzyan at the No.3 spot as Kida and Gabuzyan finish the season on a four-match winning streak.
"I am super proud, regardless of the result today," added Hinson. "It was a moving up season for us and there will be a lot of more bright things coming up for the Eagles."
