No. 7 Eastern faces off with No. 2 Portland State

Eastern Washington prepares to go up against the Vikings for the first round of the Big Sky Volleyball Championships

The regular season is over and now Eastern Washington volleyball gets ready for its third-straight appearance in the Big Sky Tournament. Eastern will begin as the seventh seed and take on the second seed, Portland State, on Wednesday, Nov. 22 with the first serve at 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

The entire Big Sky Tournament can viewed on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided by the Big Sky Conference. 

Game Recap
In Eastern Washington's last outing, they hosted Northern Arizona University in their last Big Sky conference game last Saturday (Nov. 19). Needless to say, the Eagle's ended their conference play in style and put it all on the line. They defeated the Lumberjacks in three sets [25-18, 25-17, 25-23], clinching its way into the Big Sky Conference Championships.

In the match, it was an all-around team effort for the Eagles. Alyssa Radke once again led the team with 14 kills and ending the night with 15 points. Sadie Bacon and Renata Lopez Morales were effective as well, each getting 11 kills and Lopez Morales with 10.

Makenna Collins led her team in digs with 14, along with Morgan Blazzard right behind her with 12 and Sage Brustad getting 10.

After defeating the Lumberjacks, Eastern clinched the seventh seed going up against the number two seed, the Portland State Vikings. The Eagles have faced the Vikings twice this season, losing their first appearance 2-3 and then defeating them 3-1 in their second.

Gearing up for the Big Sky Championships, Eastern Washington finished their conference play with a record of 6-10, and an overall record of 11-17.

In conference play, Renata Lopez Morales is in the top five for hitting percentage. Ranking in third place, playing a total of 57 sets, Lopez Morales has 88 kills with a .356 hitting percentage. For the team, she leads in blocks with a total of 91 and averages 0.93 per set in a total of 98 sets played.

Alyssa Radke is key on offense, ranking ninth for kills and points in the conference. With a total of 59 sets played, Radke has 189 kills averaging 3.20 per set. Radke also has 220.0 total points in the season and averages 3.73 per set as well. For her team, Radke sits in second with a total of 310 kills and 82 total blocks on the season in a total of 106 sets played.

Senior Lindsey Russell has been nothing less than a team player. She is one of Eastern's most important offensive players as she has collected a total of 562 assists in 59 total sets played during conference play. Russell ranks sixth in the Big Sky for assists as she averages 9.53 per set. With a total of 105 sets played, Russell has 1014 total assists this season, ranking fourth for all games played.

Earlier today, Sage Brustad and Alyssa Radke were named to the All-Big Sky second team. It is the first postseason award for both Eagles.

In Big Sky conference play, Portland State ended with a record of 11-5 and an overall record of 16-11.

In the conference, the Vikings are all over the leaderboard. Parker Webb has been having a great season for Portland as she has been in the top five for kills points, and service aces. Playing on a total of 60 sets, Webb has 216 kills averaging 3.60 per set, 27 service aces, averaging 0.45 per set and a total of 259.0 points, averaging 4.32 per set.

Makayla Lewis is right behind Webb for kills with 211 and averages 2.58 per set in a total of 59 sets played. Lewis also, in overall sets played with 91, ranks in fifth place in points with 344.5 and averages 3.79 per set.

In digs, Ellie Snook leads the conference with a total of 312 and averages 5.20 per set. Madison Friebel ranks in second place in the conference in assists with 685 total, she is averaging 11.42 per set.

In assists, the Vikings sit in first with a total of 802 averaging 13.37 per set. They are ranked number one as well in kills with a total of 852 averaging 14.20 per set.

Friebel earned Top Newcomer of the Year award from the Big Sky, while Snook was Co-Libero of the Year. Webb, Lewis and Friebel were All-Conference first team selections. Snook and Sophia Meyers each earned spots on the All-Big Sky second team.

If Eastern Washington defeats Portland State, they will advance to the conference semifinals where they will either play the third seed, Weber State, or the sixth seed, Montana State on Friday, Nov. 25.
