A Look Back
Eastern Washington finished ninth in the Big Sky during the 2021-22 season, with a 9-21 overall record and 7-13 in Big Sky games. The team lost in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament to eighth seed, Northern Colorado. Last season, Eastern was 6-9 at Reese Court and 3-10 on the road.

Preseason Polls
Eastern Washington was selected sixth in the Big Sky preseason coaches' poll leading up to the 2022-23 season. Eastern was picked to finish eighth in the preseason media poll.

The Second Act
The 2022-23 season marks head coach Joddie Gleason's second season leading the Eagles. Gleason battled a tough schedule and COVID delays during her first season in Cheney, along with fielding a young roster. The Eagles' freshman class combined to make 82 starts out of 150 possible chances. In her initial season, Gleason guided Eastern to the ninth seed in the Big Sky Tournament and a 7-13 record in the Big Sky.

Gleason's first win as a division one head coach came in November of 2021 against Evergreen at Reese Court. Eastern dominated the Ducks in a 101-38 victory. In the win, Eastern hit 17 three-pointers to tie the program record. Eastern's next win was another one-sided affair with a 102-61 victory over Multnomah. The Eagles would set a program record with 18 made three-points in the game.

Gleason's first conference win was a 56-52 slug fest with Weber State at home. The marquee moment of the season was a 76-69 road win over eventual Big Sky champion, Montana State.

What's Back
Eastern had two postseason award winners as Jaydia Martin earned Big Sky Freshman of the Year and Jacinta Buckley was named All-Big Sky Third Team. Martin also earned All-Big Sky honorable mention honors.

Gleason returns eight players from last season's team, including her five main starters. Martin, Buckley, Andie Zylak, Milly Knowles and Jaleesa Lawrence give the Eagles a strong group of experienced talent for the upcoming season. The five Eagles combined for 132 starts and 4,098 minutes played in the 2021-22 season.

Key bench players also return for Eastern including Alexis Pettis, Devynn Warns and Gabrielle Jung. Pettis played in all 30 games and averaged 7.5 points off the bench.

This season will also be the first time Gleason will get to utilize Aaliyah Alexander, who sat out last season with an injury. Alexander started 21 games in the 2020-21 season, averaging 10.7 points per game and 4.4 rebounds.

New Eags On Campus
Gleason brought in a strong recruiting class, with seven freshmen joining the team. The class includes four forwards in Jayden McNeal, Cori Wilcox, Addison Hall, Camille Jentzsch and Bella Hays. This group will help to increase the Eagles' presence in the paint. Gleason also augmented her already strong group of guards with Ella Gallatin and Breeje Schuler.

In addition, Gleason brings in transfer, Jamie Loera, from Arizona State to provide an experienced leader in the backcourt.

A Look at the Warriors
Corban University had a tough 2021-22 season, going 5-24. The team returns 10 players for last year's team to provide good depth and experience.

A key returner is two-time, First Team Cascade Collegiate All-Conference selection Holly Golenor.  The senior forward averaged 15.9 points and 10 rebounds, leading to her racking up 11 double-doubles. Also returning for Corban is sophomore guard, Gemma LaVerge, who averaged 14.3 points per game.

In the CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Warriors were picked to finish eighth in the conference.

Corban has already played its first game of the season, traveling to play Willamette. The Warriors lost to Bearcats, 57-66 this past Sunday. Corban will play Whitworth University the day before its game against Eastern.

The Warriors also bring in a talented class of freshman, with six new players to add to the roster.

This will be the first meeting in history between Eastern Washington and Corban University.
