Final Results.
The WSU Invitational concluded today (Feb. 5) in Spokane, Wash., at The Podium.
Katie Petsch competed in the women's 200-meter dash and placed 10
th with a time of 24.95. This time places her fifth in the Eastern Washington University record book all-time top-ten list. This time improved on the list where it was previously 25.24. Petsch also competed in the women's 60-meter prelims and placed ninth with a time of 7.63 which was a personal record for her.
"In the sprints Petsch ran a personal record in the 60-meter prelims and almost made finals. Then she ran another personal record in the 200-meter and reached another level of running with her first sub-25 second race. She keeps getting better and better each week," explained head women's coach
Marcia Mecklenburg.
In the women's pole vault
Morgan Fossen,
Hally Ruff,
Katrina Terry, and
Savannah Schultz competed.
Fossen placed second with a mark of 13-1 1/2. Ruff and Terry placed third with a mark of 12-7 1/2. Schultz placed seventh with a mark of 12-1 1/2.
"Our athletes competed in some elite fields today. The pole vaulters led the way with a two-through-four sweep led by Fossen. She is getting closer to clearing 13-6 each week," stated Mecklenburg.
"Today's meet added to the unexpected experiences that will help our athletes better prepare for the upcoming championships," explained men's head coach
Stan Kerr.
Joe Gauthier competed in the men's 60-meter prelims and placed second with a time of 6.82. He then competed in the 60-meter finals and placed third with a time of 6.84.
"Gauthier made the finals in the 60-meter along with Olympian Jeff Henderson. In the finals, Henderson false-started and resulted in Gauthier not getting the head-to-head matchup we were all hoping for," stated Kerr.
Daniel Gaik competed in the men's 400-meter and placed fifth with a time of 48.51.
"Gaik won his heat and ran a great race that looked a lot like a wrestling match because indoor track is aggressive and physical," said Kerr.
In the men's weight throw
Colton Kautz competed and placed 11
th with a mark of 52-11.
Alex Bishop competed in the men's high jump and placed fifth with a mark of 6-7.
Zach Klobutcher competed in the men's pole vault and placed fourth with a mark of 16-2 1/2.
Kerr stated, "Klobutcher had a solid outing in the pole vault after last week's rough meet," explained Kerr. "All said, each of these experiences will make each of these guys and our team better in the long run. The ability to handle adversity is not always an easy skill to develop, but today we enjoyed this witnessing this trio athletes in the taming of adversity."
Mecklenburg stated, "It was a good weekend for the Eagles. I feel we are moving in the right direction as we head into our final regular season meet of indoors next weekend."
