BOX SCORE
CHENEY, Wash. - The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team hosted Montana today for its first regular season Big Sky Conference match and edged the Griz 4-3 inside the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 2-6 overall and begin conference play 1-0 with a two-match winning streak under their belt.
"Another tough Big Sky Conference battle today, as we have come to expect. I'm really proud of the fight and grit we showed in every match from start to finish," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "One of the toughest things in tennis is to fight for every point. It's very mentally challenging to maintain that focus from the start of doubles and all the way through singles. I thought that was our biggest strength today and one that we are going to rely on moving forward in our upcoming matches. We continue to play really good doubles and that gave us the early lead and momentum as we went into singles play and ultimately that was the difference today and what allowed us to come up with a good team win."
The Eagles outplayed the Griz in doubles play, collecting the point to take an early advantage. In singles play, Eastern found success at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 spots to secure the three points needed to send the Griz home with a loss.
Hinson now holds a winning 6-4 all-time record against the Montana program with a four-match winning streak attached
