GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Eastern Washington University women's golf team completed the first day at the Bobcat Desert Classic in ninth place after shooting 629 (304, 325) strokes in rounds one and two. The Eagles finished ahead of two Big Sky Conference programs in Montana State (635) and Northern Colorado (639).
Â
"We had a great round this morning.
Jaelin Ishikawa and
Stephanie Chelack played really well," said head coach
Brenda Howe. "The winds picked up this afternoon, and we just couldn't mentally handle the difficulties that it creates. We have to be tougher in those conditions to be a little more competitive. It looks like we'll have another windy day tomorrow and we'll need to come out ready to play with higher expectations for ourselves."
Â
Ishikawa shot her best round in the first 18 holes, finishing with a 72 and is currently tied for 10
th place overall. Chelack followed with a 74 in her first 18.
Kami Twining improved by two strokes in round two to finish the final 18 with 77 strokes.Â
Â
The Eagles shot three stroke shy of eighth place Idaho State (626). Northern Arizona leads the Big Sky programs competing with 599 (293, 306) strokes to sit in second while Southern Utah trails by one stroke at 600 (301, 299).Â
Santa Clara leads the tournament in first place overall with 592 (294, 298) strokes.Â
