Maricopa, Ariz. – The Eastern Washington University women's golf team finished the Cowgirl Classic today in 18
th place after shooting 934 (309, 316, 309) strokes at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. The Eagles finished ahead of four Big Sky Conference programs in Northern Colorado, Montana, Portland State and Montana State.
"We saw some good scores today from
Kami Twining and
Jaelin Ishikawa, and posted a decent team score," said head coach
Brenda Howe. "It was great to beat some conference schools ranked ahead of us, and that should add some confidence as we get closer to the conference tournament."
The Eagles shot seven strokes behind 17
th place tournament host Wyoming (927).
Jaelin Ishikawa and
Kami Twining both hit their best score of the tournament in the final round shooting a 74. Additionally, EWU beat out UNC and PSU, both of which were ranked higher in this year's preseason coaches poll.
Santa Clara won the event shooting 880 (292, 293, 295) strokes to finish three strokes ahead of second place Long Beach State (883). Northern Arizona finished first among all Big Sky Conference schools competing with 912 (304, 305, 303), landing in 13
th place.
