Eastern Washington women's golf charged up the leaderboard on the final day(Sep. 20) of the Kelsey Chugg Invitational, hosted by Weber State, jumping from eighth place to finish fifth.
"The ladies were outstanding today," head coach
Brenda Howe said. "Yesterday, we dug ourselves in a little hole as two of our top players struggled which hurt. Today, they came out ready to go. We shot our best round since the 2019-20 season, and I was really excited with how they finished on the leaderboard. It usually takes a couple of rounds at the beginning of the year to get settled, and hopefully they're set for the rest of the fall."
Eastern finished with a team score of 915, shooting 295 in the third round at the Wolf Creek Golf Club in Eden, Utah. The Eagles final round score was tied for the second lowest single round team score at the Invite. It was also the Eastern's lowest score since they shot 292 in the second round of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Tournament in the fall of 2019.
Meghan Singh tied for second on the leaderboard after shooting a 72 in the third round for a total score of 220. Singh's total score was her best 54-hole performance of her career, clearing her previous high by 11 strokes.
Jaelin Ishikawa found her swing in the third round, posting a 71 and jumping up 16 spots on the leaderboard to finish in tie for 26
th place. Ishikawa tied with teammate
Brooke Mahler, as both had a 230 total score.
"Meghan played solid all three rounds. I'm so proud of the maturity she showed in the position she was in," Howe added. "Jaelin shot under par today after a rough day yesterday and it was great seeing her respond positively."
The Eagles finished ahead of Big Sky schools, Montana in eighth and Idaho State in 10
th, while being
nine strokes behind Weber State for fourth. Creighton won the Kelsey Chugg invite with 895 total strokes.
