Eastern Washington women's tennis team took on Colorado today (Feb. 11) at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Wash., and fell 4-0. With the loss, the Eagles move 1-1 overall and return home next week for two home matches.
"I was pleased with our work ethic and focus out there today. I thought we came out with great energy in doubles and really had our chances to get that point," head coach
Dustin Hinson said. "We played aggressive doubles, which is what we've been working on. It was just really good for us to compete again. It's been almost a month since our last match, and we looked rusty at the beginning of singles. Once we started getting our rhythm, we settled in, and I was happy with the style of tennis we played. A lot of the rhythm drills we have been working on in practice really helped the team settle in and focus on playing the ball and taking things one point at a time. We will learn from today and we are excited to continue competing as we work our way into the season."
The Eagles finished two doubles matches and three singles matches before the fixture was over. Highlights saw
Sara Vasic teaming up with
Scout Mathews to collect four points before falling to Colorado at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Mathews also fought hard at No. 1 singles but fell short in the second set to end 6-4, 6-1.
