Five Eagles selected to WGCA All-American Scholar Team

Women’s golf adds to history of academic success on the national level

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. The tradition of academic success continues for Eastern Washington women's golf as five student-athletes were selected to the Women's Golf Coaches' Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar team. Eastern's selections include senior Morgan Baum, junior Carisa Padilla, senior Jaelin Ishikawa, sophomore Kami Twining and freshman Brooke Mahler

"This is quite an honor for these five ladies," head coach Brenda Howe said. "It awards their year-long dedication to not only to the golf program, but their academic success while being a student-athlete." 

With her award this season, Baum now has four WGCA All-American selections in four seasons. Padilla earned her third All-American honor and Ishikawa earned her second. Twining now has two-straight WGCA selections, while Mahler earned her first as an Eagle.

EWU tied with Sacramento State for the most All-Americans Scholars among Big Sky Conference programs. 

The qualifications for the All-American Scholar team include: 1) A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher; 2) Play in 50% of the team's scheduled competitions; 3) Be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season. 

A total of 1,423 women's collegiate golfers from 384 programs earned All-American honors.

Eastern Washington placed sixth at the 2023 Big Sky Championships after being selected to finish 8th. Ishikawa was the tournament runner-up, posting a career-low score 212 (-4) for 54 holes.
