CHENEY, Wash. — Vice Zanki, a forward out of Croatia, has committed to the Eastern Washington University men's basketball program for the 2023-24 season, as announced by head coach
David Riley on Monday.
"Vice is a dynamic wing who fits our style of play," said Riley. "He has played at a high level and has a great feel for the game. We are excited to have him join our family."
Originally from Zagreb, Croatia, the 6-foot-7 Zanki competed this past summer with the Croatian U20 team, averaging just under 13 minutes in 7 games at the 2023 European U20 Championships, highlighted by an 11-point, 3-rebound effort versus Spain. He also played 15 games withe Cedevita Jr. in the HT Premjier Liga, the top professional men's basketball league in Croatia.
In 23 games with Miadost of the Croatian Prva Liga — the country's 2nd-tier professional league — Zanki shot 52.7 percent from the field, averaging 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 23 games (25.8 minutes per game).
He joins an Eagle team that boasts several members from overseas, including All-Big Sky junior forward Ethan Price (England) and fellow incoming freshman Sebastian Hartmann (Germany). Assistant Coach Pedro Rosado Garcia is from Spain and coached previously in England. Transfer guard Andre Mulibea was born in Tanzania but raised in Utah.
The Eagles are set to embark on an 11-day trip across the pond on Aug. 16, with stops in England and Spain.
