Eagles earn draw against Huskies in first exhibition

Morgan and Pattison score to give Eastern Washington the road draw against a Pac-12 foe

SEATTLE, Wash. — Although it's only an exhibition, Eastern Washington women's soccer looks poised for a successful 2023 season. The Eagles traveled to play Washington on their home pitch and walked away with a 2-2 draw against the Huskies.

"Today was a great early-season opportunity to see where we are as a team against a talented, well-coached opponent in this first exhibition match," head coach Missy Strasburg said. "Our focus was to implement and execute the concepts that we've been training with, both this pre-season, as well as last spring. We have a long way to go, but we did a lot more right than wrong today."

Eastern used goals from 2022 Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the Year Maddie Morgan and sophomore standout Chloe Pattison to leave Seattle with the draw.

"As expected, the Huskies did a great job capitalizing on mistakes and did that again today with their two first half goals. But we were really pleased with the quality of goals we scored today, as well as the mentality of needing to respond and draw level two times in this match," Strasburg added. "We will continue to train hard and build on today's effort to prepare for our season opener at Washington State!"

Along with the offensive, Kiara Matson entered the game in the second half and held the Huskies scoreless.

Eastern Washington will be on their home pitch this Thursday (Aug. 10) to play Trinity Western in the team's final exhibition.

The Eagles will open the regular season on Aug. 17 against Washington State in Pullman, Wash.
