CHENEY, Wash. — If fans wanted to see goals they had plenty of them on Sunday afternoon at EWU Soccer Field. Eastern Washington women's soccer was on the short side of the game, falling 6-3 to Saint Mary's College.
Senior Maddie Morgan has caught fire the last two weeks, netting three goals against the Gaels today. The Eagles are now 1-6 on the season
Morgan's first goal came in the seventh minute, off a rebounded save from Saint Mary's goalie, Taylor Poland. Chloe Pattison shot the ball towards the left corner of the net, but Poland managed to get her hands on the shot, deflecting it away. Morgan was there to clean up the shot and scored for a 1-0 Eagle lead.
The Geals then scored three goals for a 3-1 lead at halftime. SMC scored its fourth unanswered goal to go up by three scores on Eastern to start the second half.
The Eagles cut into the lead with Morgan's second goal at the 57th minute. Morgan collected a shot off the post from Elisabeth Cole and fired it past Poland for the score.
Then in the 63rd minute, Madison Kem dribbled down the pitch and found Pattison streaking towards the goal. Pattison delivered the cross to Morgan's feet and she converted to complete her hat trick.
SMC then drew fouls inside the box in the 67th and 86th minute, converting both penalty kicks for the 6-3 lead. The score held until the end of the game.
