FARMINGTON, Utah — For the first time since arriving in Cheney,
Jamie Loera was named Big Sky Co-Player of the Week, announced by conference today. Loera earned the award after a week where she carried Eastern Washington to a pair of wins and extended the team's record-breaking win streak to nine games.
Northern Arizona's Sophie Glancey shared the award with Loera after the Lumberjacks also posted two wins.
The Eagles improved to 5-0 in the Big Sky this week with wins over Weber State and Idaho State. Loera was the driving force behind the wins, averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Loera also added four steals in 71 minutes of game time. From the floor, Loera shot 42.9 percent and was 7-of-14(50%) from three-point range.
In the Eagles 68-46 win over the Bengals, Loera just missed a triple-double, scoring 19 points with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Against the Wildcats, Loera scored 17 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
This season, Loera is averaging 11.9 points per game to rank 12th in the Big Sky. Her 5.8 assists per game leads the conference and with 5.3 rebounds per game, ranks 17th. Loera averages 2.5 steals per game, with 42 total, to top the conference leaderboard. During conference games, Loera improves to 5.5 assists per game(1st), 3.0 steals per game(1st) and 8.0 rebounds per game(T5th).
EWU travels this week to play the two teams in second place in the Big Sky, starting with Northern Colorado on Thursday (Jan. 25) and NAU on Saturday (Jan. 27).
