MISSOULA, Mont. — Eastern Washington women's tennis earned its first win of the season on the road Friday morning. The Eagles defeated Montana, 5-2, in a non-counter matchup, winning the doubles point with four singles wins. Eastern improves to 1-6 on the season.

"I'm very happy for the team's success today. This whole group has been working hard and it's great to see them get a solid result. They earned it!," described head coach Dustin Hinson. "We started with some great doubles play and were able to secure the point with wins at No. 1 and 2. Then we followed up with very solid, straight-set wins at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles. Overall, the whole team played with trust, confidence and composure. We look forward to our matchup against Utah State tomorrow!"

Eastern established the lead over the Grizzlies after winning two of the doubles matches. Scout Mathews and Isabella Foshee took the court at No. 1 to defeat Maraia Goheen and Olivia Oosterbann, 7-5. The Eagles clinched the point after Anait Arutiunian and Jennifer Kida prevailed at No. 2 with a 6-3 win over Ivayla Mitkova and Hailey Murphy.
