MISSOULA, Mont. — Eastern Washington women's tennis faced Utah State in Missoula this morning, falling to the Aggies 5-2. After dropping the doubles point, Utah St. won four singles matches to secure the match win. The Eagles fall to 1-7 on the season.
"I'm really proud of the team today. Even though we lost the team match, we played some very good tennis and had our chances to get the win," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We had a great win at No. 2 doubles with [Jennifer] Kida and [Anait] Arutiunian; and we were just a point or two away from securing the doubles point at No. 1. Singles was a grind in every match from the start. We battled close and, in the end, we came up short in a few matches where we had the lead early. Jennifer played a great match and is striking the ball well. She's playing free and when she does that, the sky's the limit for her. [Kelly] Arends is playing better and better every time she steps on the court for a match. It's exciting to see and I'm looking forward to watching what both of them can do moving forward this season. Our mindset and confidence took a step forward this weekend and we are excited for our conference opener at home next Saturday!"
Jennifer Kida earned a win for the singles at the No. 2 singles position against Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario. The senior won in straight sets, 6-4 in the first and 6-1 in the second.
Kelly Arends earned her second win of the weekend, topping Ana Paula Chavez Sanchez in three sets at No. 6. Arends won the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second 6-4. The redshirt-sophomore then secured the win with a 10-5 win in the third set.
Kida partnered with Anait Arutiunian at the No. 2 doubles, and the two earned a 6-3 win over Indya Nespor and Savannah Johnson.
