Eagles lead Big Sky in Fall All-Academic honors

Eastern Washington tallied the most student-athletes with 82 earning the academic recognition

FARMINGTON, Utah — Eastern Washington University set the standard in the Big Sky with 82 student-athletes earning Big Sky All-Academic Awards. The total is the most of all conference and football affiliated institutions. 

Student-athlete qualify for the award if the meet the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution. 

Cross Country student-athletes must have participated in at least half of the team's competitions or competed at the conference championship to qualify. 

Of the 82 student-athletes, EWU football had 28 followed by women's soccer with 22. Women's cross-country delivered with 12 student-athletes on the list and men's followed with 11. Volleyball boasted nine all-academic recipients from the fall.

Eastern had 23 student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs across its five fall sports.

In total, 656 student-athletes in the Big Sky were named to the fall All-Academic team. Football had 262 total honorees, with soccer (148), volleyball (940, women's cross country (81) and men's cross country (71) contributing to the total count. There were 101 4.0 GPA among the group.
