CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's tennis wanted to make a statement right away in conference play and they accomplished that this morning. Eastern defeated Montana State 4-3, winning four of the six singles matches. The Eagles start the Big Sky schedule 1-0 and are 2-7 overall this season.

"I'm so proud of this team today. It was a great start to the conference season," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "The team believed in what they could accomplish and they played with that kind of trust. Every player stepped up and played with grit and the kind of energy we love to see in these kinds of conference battles. We are excited for another good test tomorrow at Gonzaga."

After dropping the doubles point, EWU quickly got back in the match against the Bobcats with two singles victories. Jennifer Kida and Leandra Nizetic won at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3) and 3(7-5, 6-4) respectively to put the team ahead.

Isabella Foshee pushed the Eagles on the brink of the win after a three-set win at the No. 4 spot (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) over Angel Bean.

Reigning Co-Big Sky Player of the Week Kelly Arends delivered the clinching point in a straight-set win at No. 5 (6-2, 6-4) against Jasmin Lerman.
