Eagles fall to Vikings on Sunday

Eastern won two singles matches, but fell short in others

3/10/2024 3:24:00 PM

PORTLAND, Ore. — Eastern Washington women's tennis completed its road trip on Sunday, playing Portland State. The Vikings opened with the doubles point and then won four singles matches.

"We battled today but just came up short. We had good effort and played with all we had," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We still had some bright moments on court. I thought [Leandra] Nizetic played a really strong singles match to get the straight set win. [Isabella] Foshee had a really good match to win a tough, three-setter. The other matches were hard fought but things just didn't fall our way. We will use this tough feeling as motivation to continue working hard to prepare for the next one."

Portland St. swept the doubles round to start and gave them a quick 1-0 lead in the match.

At the No. 4 position, Leandra Nizetic put Eastern on the board with a straight set win over Makoto Ohara (6-4, 6-1).

Isabella Foshee, playing at No. 6, won 6-3 in both sets to secure another point for the Eagles.

The Vikings clinched the match win with four wins in singles.
