CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University Football head coach Aaron Best announced on Tuesday that Tamarick Pierce has joined the Eagles' staff as the team's Running Backs Coach.

"Bringing back a former student-athlete in a coaching position is always something to be excited about," Best said. "Tamarick will demand a high level of performance from his players on and off of the field, just as he did by example during his playing days. Looking forward to making more memories with 'T-Mack'!"

Pierce, originally from Oakland, Calif., played running back for the Eags from 2015-21, appearing in 51 games and starting six while piling up 1,648 yards and 24 touchdowns on 285 career rushes. He earned All-Big Sky First Team honors in the Spring 2021 season after averaging 5.4 yards per carry on 86 attempts and scoring 5 TDs. The two-year captain was a preseason all-conference selection for the 2021 season, but he saw limited action due to an early injury. He was also a three-time Big Sky All-Academic honoree.

Since graduating from Eastern with his bachelor's degree in Health Psychology and a minor in Communications, Pierce served as an offensive quality control coach for the Eags in 2022 before spending the 2023 season as a graduate assistant at San Jose State under Brent Brennan, who is now the head coach at the University of Arizona. The Spartans went 7-6 last year, including a 6-2 record in the Mountain West, winning their final six regular season games before a loss in the Hawaii Bowl.

Eastern opens their 2024 regular season schedule vs. Monmouth on Aug. 29.
