CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's tennis closed out its season on Friday morning, hosting Sacramento State. Eastern fell, 6-1, to the Hornets at EWU Tennis Courts. EWU's final record is 3-16 overall and 1-7 in the Big Sky.

The team celebrated senior day, honoring Scout Mathews and Jennifer Kida prematch.

"Tough match today for the team. Sac. St. is very tough, especially outdoors and they played a good, steady game that was tough to overcome," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We battled on all courts and fought with heart and with everything we had. There was some good doubles play out there. We were very close to pulling out that point. Strong win for [Scout] Mathews and [Isabella] Foshee. Isabella also finished her singles match on a high note to get that W. Even though the season didn't go the way we wanted, we never wavered on our commitment to show up and train like champions everyday. That is, and always will be, the "Eagle way". I am very proud of the whole team and very proud of Scout and Jennifer for giving their all to this tennis program for the last four years. I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors. They will always have a special place in my heart and on these tennis courts. Go Eags!"

At the No. 1 doubles, Mathews and Foshee put together a commanding 6-2 win over Weronika Ejsmont and Best Lee.

The Hornets won the No. 2 and 3 doubles match to take the point and the lead over the Eagles.

Foshee followed up in singles with a battle against Lee. The junior pulled off the win in three sets, winning 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
