FARMINGTON, Utah — For the second time this outdoor season,
Caitlin Simmons has earned Big Sky women's field Athlete of the Week. "Egypt" Simmons broke her own Eastern Washington triple jump record this past weekend at the Whitworth Peace Meet, recording a 12.70m jump.
The mark surpasses Simmons' previous record of 12.54m that she recorded at the Sam Adams Classic in Spokane. She won her first Athlete of the Week award after initially breaking the EWU record.
Currently, Simmons holds the top spot on the Big Sky performance list. She is 11th in the NCAA West Region and 41st overall in the nation this season.
Along with her records in triple jump, Simmons posted a 6.18m mark at the Sam Adams Classic, in the long jump, to put her in second on the program's all-time performance list. Kimberly Smith set the program record in the same event at 6.27m.
Eastern has four meets on its schedule this week, traveling to California for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational from Thursday through Saturday. The Eagles will also compete at the Whitworth Twilight Invite on Thursday.
