INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA announced the full list of qualifiers for the 2024 Outdoor Championships yesterday and Eastern Washington track and field will have five competing in the first round next week.

EWU will send its two record-breaking jumpers, Caitlin Simmons and Kimberly Smith, to Fayetteville, Ark. Simmons will compete in the long and triple jump, with Smith in the long jump as well.

At last week's Big Sky Outdoor Championships, Simmons broke the EWU triple jump record for the fourth time this season with a 12.88m mark. She holds the second-best jump in the Big Sky this outdoor season. In long jump, Simmons recorded a 6.22m mark at the Desert Heat Classic (4/27), tying for second on the conference leaderboard.

Smith broke the Eastern record in the long jump to open the outdoor season at the Sam Adams Classic (3/16). The sophomore grabbed the top spot in the Big Sky with a 6.27m jump.

Savannah Schultz will return to the NCAA championships in Pole Vault. In Bozeman last week, Schultz posted a 4.14m mark, third-best in the conference this season.

For the men, a pair of Eagles will compete in javelin as both Ryan Rieckmann and Logan Ashbeck qualified for the national meet.

Rieckmann fired off a 71.51m throw at the Oregon Preview (3/22) that ranked fourth in the Big Sky. The mark also ranks second in Eastern program history. Ashbeck qualified with a 64.08m mark in Oregon, as well, to rank sixth in the conference.

Eastern sends five student-athletes to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season. Schultz and Rieckmann make their third and second appearances, while Simmons, Smith and Ashbeck make their first in the Eagle uniform.

The 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships west regional begins Wednesday (May 22) and concluded on Saturday (May 25) in Fayetteville, Ark.
