Eagles Show Grit but Come Up Short on the Road at Weber State

CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington battled on the road in Ogden but ultimately fell to Weber State, 3–1 (11–25, 26–24, 15–25, 19–25). The Wildcats came out firing in the opening set, applying heavy pressure from the service line and in transition, forcing the Eagles to play from behind early. Eastern responded with grit in the second frame, settling into rhythm offensively. Strong swings from Quincy Moran paired with consistent setting helped EWU rally in a tightly contested set, and the Eagles capitalized late to take a 26–24 win and even the match.

"We are obviously not pleased with the outcome but we are encouraged by the way in which we fought tonight, especially after such a rough first set," said head coach Jon Haruguchi. "We battled back and demonstrated some resilience and some grittiness defensively tonight and that was something that we've been lacking recently."

Weber State regained control in the third set behind a strong defensive presence at the net, disrupting Eastern's offensive flow and shifting the momentum back in their favor. The Eagles continued to fight in the fourth, trading points through extended rallies before the Wildcats put together a late scoring run to close out the match.

Moran led the attack for EWU with 13 kills, while Kalista Lukovich and Quincey McCoy added eight and seven kills respectively. Defensively, Olivia Burns anchored the backcourt with 16 digs, and Lukovich contributed 11 to record a double-digit outing. At the net, Eastern matched Weber State with eight total blocks, as the front line provided timely stops to generate energy throughout the match.
