Middleton Named Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

12/15/2025 2:00:00 PM

CHENEY, Wash. — The Big Sky Conference announced that Melia Middleton has been named its Female Track Athlete of the Week, marking the first weekly conference honor of her career. Middleton earned the recognition after delivering a historic performance in the 300 meters, breaking a 46-year-old school record with a time of 39.62. The previous mark of 39.63 was set by Lisa Sorrell in 1979, and Middleton's run now stands as the fastest in program history.

"What can I say about Ms. Melia," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Erin Tucker. "She has been training like her hair is on fire and I love it. I have been holding her back at practice as she is destroying all other paces. I told her on Saturday no holding back. She's got more in the tank and this won't be her only school record at EWU! Stay tuned!"

Middleton transferred to Eastern Washington from Nevada ahead of this season. While with the Wolf Pack, she competed in four indoor meets and six outdoor meets during her freshman year and earned Indoor All-Mountain West honors, laying the foundation for her continued success at EWU.
