Road skid snapped, Eagles cruise to win over Yotes

BOISE, Idaho - The Eagles woke up hungry Saturday morning, as Eastern would dominate College of Idaho 7-0 in Boise. The Yotes dropped to 1-3, while EWU moved to 2-5 on the season to end a five match road skid.

The Eagles and the Yotes met in their fourth meeting of all-time. With the win, Eastern moves to 2-2 against College of Idaho. The last two met in Boise in 2019, with the Eagles defeating the Yotes 7-0.

"I thought the main focus today was to really show confidence and carry ourselves with strength. We really want to do that, regardless of the opponent and I thought they went out there and just really dominated with that energy," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "It allows them to really play with strength and confidence and I thought we did a really good job with that today."

The Eagles would start the day off with dominating doubles, outscoring the Yotes 18-1 across the three dual matches to secure the first point of the day.

In the doubles No. 1 position, for the sixth time this season, Isabella Foshee and Kenzington Mann would secure their second win of the season with a 6-0 victory.  Foshee earned her 19th doubles victory of her career, with Mann earning her 15th of her doubles victory of her career

Leandra Nizetic and Anait Arutiunian would represent the Eagles in the No. 2 doubles slot for the second time this season. Arutiunian has had five different doubles partners this season. The two would earn their first doubles victory of the season, with Nizetic earning her second overall doubles win of the season, and her seventh career doubles victory. Arutiunian would also earn her seventh career doubles victory.

The freshman Olivia Marais and Zoe Pradel would each earn their first career doubles dual-match victory in the No. 3 position with an impressive 6-1 win.

"The other good thing that we did was we didn't let some of those moments when we felt like we didn't hit a good shot, or they had a good shot affect us. We were able to respond, reset and then come back to the next one," Hinson said.

In singles, the Eagles would showcase great control of their individual matches outscoring the Yotes 72-4.

Isabella Foshee would take the No. 1 singles position for Eagles for the fifth time this season and earn her 19th career singles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 performance.

The No. 2 singles for the Eagles, Anait Arutiunian would make her fifth appearance from that position this season. A 6-1, 6-1 victory would earn her second singles victory of the season, and the fourth of her Eagle career.

The junior Leandra Nizetic would be in a familiar spot in the No. 3 position for the seventh time this season. Nizetic won her team-leading third singles dual-match of the season 6-0, 6-0, and the 13th of her career.

Kelly Arends picked up her first victory from the No. 4 position this season, and the second singles victory of the season in her perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance. Arends picked up her seventh victory of her Eagle career.

In the No. 5 and No. 6 position, the freshman Zoe Pradel and Olivia Marais would again cruise to victory to each earn their first career dual-match singles wins. Pradel would earn the 6-0, 6-1 in her fifth singles appearance of the season. Marais would see herself in the No. 6 position for the fourth time this season, and earn the perfect victory 6-0, 6-0.

"The girls felt overall good about their energy and their teamwork and have been training hard to get the win today and will use it to build confidence as we move forward to our next match," said Hinson.
