2/7/2025 3:05:00 PM

SPOKANE, Wash. - Continuing their road trip, EWU would be unable to take down Air Force in Spokane for a neutral site match. The Falcons would defeat the Eagles 7-0, as Air Force improves to 4-2 with Eastern dropping to 1-4 on the season.

EWU continued their longest road stretch of the season with their fourth straight match away from home. The Eagles and the Falcons last met in 2012 in a neutral site match in Seattle. The Falcons would come out with the 6-1 victory, and have now won 10 matches in a row over the Eagles.

Leandra Nizetic/Kelly Arends would represent the Eagles in the No.2 doubles slot for the fourth time this season. The duo would struggle to get their footing, as the Falcons would go on to win 6-3, and controlling the momentum for most of the doubles dual-match

In the doubles No. 1 position, the Eagles would see Isabella Foshee and Anait Arutiunian pair up for the first time this season. Arutiunian has now had four different doubles partners this season. The match would be a tight one, as the Eagles would take a 4-3 early lead. The Falcons would fight back however, tie it 4-4, and then retake the 5-4 lead. The Falcons would carry that momentum, and win the match 6-4 to clinch the first point of the day.

Sara Vasic and Zoe Pradel would each make their second appearance in doubles this season in the No. 3 position, and would pair up for the first time this season. After falling behind 4-3, Vasic and Pradel would answer back, tying it up 4-4, and take advantage of their serve to retake the lead 5-4. The Falcons would not go away however, as they would tie the match 5-5, and then take the 6-5 lead before the match being clinched in the No. 1 doubles.

Isabella Foshee would take the No. 1 singles position for Eagles for the third time this season. Foshee would start fast and take the early 2-0 lead. Alexis Odom from Air Force would respond and tie it 2-2. The first set would continue to be a back and forth affair, but Foshee would dig deep to win 6-4. In the second set, Foshee would fall behind this time, but would be able to rally and take a 3-1 lead. Odom would however respond big and win six of the next eight, and take the second set 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Foshee would fall behind early, but would grind her way to a 7-7 tie. Odom would be able to outlast Foshee however 11-9, and take the singles dual-match.

The No. 2 singles for the Eagles, Anait Arutiunian would make her third appearance from that position this season. Arianna Van Houweling from the Falcons would win the first set 6-1, and continue her success in the second set and win 6-2.

The junior Leandra Nizetic would be in a tight first set early in the No. 3 position. Nadia Kojonroj would be able to fight it out, and go on a run to take the 6-3 first set, and continue her success taking the second set 6-1 and the match.

Kelly Arends would make her second appearance from the No. 4 position this season. After taking a first set 2-1 lead, Sofia Mavor would climb back and take the 3-2 lead. Mavor would keep her rhythm and take the first set 6-3. Arends looked to bounce back in the second set, and would again take a 2-1 lead. Arends would continue her success this time and would maintain her lead until a 6-3 second set win. In the tiebreaker, Arends and Mavor would take it the distance, but Mavor would be able to steal it 10-8 and win the match.

In the No. 5 position, Freshman Zoe Pradel would appear in her fourth singles match of the season. The Freshman would serve first, and take the early 1-0 lead, but Shivaani Selvan would be able to gain momentum and take the first set 6-2. The second set would see Selvan and Pradel exchange success early, but Selvan would catch another gear and take the second set 6-2.

Sara Vasic would round out the singles in the No. 6 position, but would fall to Giovanna Sanchirico in straight sets.
