Eagles fall to Vandals in tight conference opener

3/2/2025 5:10:00 PM

MOSCOW, Idaho - The Eagles (2-7, 0-1) fell in a tight 4-3 match to Idaho (9-2, 1-0) in their Big Sky conference opener. The Eagles move to 27-17 in Big Sky openers, and 9-10 when opening conference play on the road.

"It is tough to lose 4-3, but I'm really really proud of the girls for how hard they fought in this match. They carried themselves with confidence on the court. Win or lose their matches, like they fought in doubles, and all the way through the singles, so that was really awesome to see," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "Overall, so proud of their effort as we look to build on it and come out on top as a team next time."

In the doubles No. 1 position for the Eagles, Isabella Foshee/Kenzington Mann would be in a tight match, but would be unable to pull out the win and fall 7-5.

Leandra Nizetic and Anait Arutiunian would represent the Eagles in the No. 2 doubles slot for the fourth time this season. The duo would compete, but would fall 6-4 to Valentina Rodas and Naomi Schraeder from Idaho.

The freshman Zoe Pradel/Sara Vasic would represent the Eagles in the No. 3 position for the second straight match and fall 6-1.

Isabella Foshee would take the No. 1 singles position for the Eagles. A tight first set would go into a tiebreaker, but Foshee would be unable to take the first set and fall 7-6 (3-7). In the second, after falling behind early, Foshee would be able to roar back and win 7-5 to force a third. Foshee surged in the third set to take the early lead and win it 6-3. Foshee recorded her third singles dual-match win of the season, 10th overall conference singles win, and the 20th overall of her career.

"I was really pleased with Isabella to get the win at No.1 singles. She really played well. She was down in that second set and did a great job of really fighting and winning that full third with good confidence on the court," Hinson said.

The junior Leandra Nizetic would be in a familiar spot in the No. 3 position for the 10th time this season. Nizetic would take the first set 6-4, but would drop very competitive 7-5 and 6-4 second and third sets to Naomi Schraeder.

Kenzington Mann would represent the Eagles in the No. 4 position for the fifth time this season. After losing the first set 6-3, Mann would almost force a third, but fall 7-5 in the second set.

Zoe Pradel would see herself in the No. 5 position for the second time in her seventh appearance this season. After losing the first set 6-3 to Len Beckx, Pradel responded tremendously. The second set saw a very competitive 7-5 win for Pradel to force a tiebreaker. Preadel would come out victorious with a 10-7 tiebreaker win for her second singles dual-match win of the season

Olivia Marais would represent the Eagles in the No. 6 position for the fourth time this season. Marais jumped out to a 6-3 first set lead, but would see some adversity after the second set. Chenyue Xu would steal the second set 6-2 over Marais to force a tiebreaker. A contested and competitive tiebreaker would go to the freshman 10-8, as Marais would record her second singles dual-match win of the season.

"Also was super happy with the two freshmen to get wins at No. 5 and 6. Both of them came up big and displayed fight and confidence on the court which we've been working on with them. They've got the game, so it's just a matter of showing that and they both did that really well," Hinson said.
