Eastern ends Cali road trip in Stockton

EWU fell in its second road match of the west coast trip

STOCKTON, Calif. — With a quick turnaround on the courts, Eastern Washington women's tennis was back in action against Pacific this afternoon. The Tigers topped the Eagles, 6-1, to end the EWU road trip in California. Eastern's record now falls to 3-10 on the season.

"I thought our level of tennis definitely bumped up a notch today. The matches were very competitive, all the way from doubles through singles," head coach Dustin Hinson described. "We're a very scrappy team here at Eastern, and the girls fought hard to find a way in different matches. We just could not come away with enough wins to get the team victory. Kenzington Mann's match, at No. 3 singles, was very impressive and she did a really good job. I'm super proud of that effort she had and happy for her to get the confidence from a win today. She really stepped up and played well."

Kenzington Mann earned a win in singles, playing against Indiya McLeod. Mann secured the first set, 6-4, but was in a battle during the second. She overcame McLeod, 7-5, in the second to get the Eagles the point.

Isabella Foshee fought hard at No. 1, but dropped both sets 6-4 to Megan Charmichael. Zoe Pradel pushed Alexis Sam to the brink in the first set, but could not get the win, dropping the set 7-5. She fell 6-3 in the second set as Sam secured the point.

The Eagles also competed close in the doubles, with two matches ending 6-3 and one 6-4 against the team.

"Everybody else, up-and-down the line up, really fought hard and they couldn't quite come out on top in the win-loss column," Hinson added. "We need these battles to get stronger. It helps us learn and grow so we can be ready for our upcoming conference matches."
