Redhawks top Eagles in Seattle

Eastern Washington picked up a win in singles on Sunday morning

4/6/2025 12:34:00 PM

SEATTLE, Wash. — Eastern Washington women's tennis had a break from conference competition with a road matchup against Seattle at the Amy Tee Tennis Center. The Redhawks won the match, 6-1, over Eastern after securing the doubles point and five victories in singles. EWU drops to 3-11 overall this season, while Seattle improves to 3-10.

"I'm definitely happy with the win Olivia [Marais] had at the five in singles. I thought she played her game and used her strengths. She showed excellent fight and I'm super happy for her to get that win," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "The overall takeaway message from today is to learn from and build off of the match. All the girls on the team are definitely on board with that idea. This is one [match] that we have to learn from and be prepared for next weekend as we have two big conference matches at home. Today, I want the team to learn and build on our game so we are ready to go and fight next weekend."

Freshman Olivia Marais battled aggressively to get the win at No. 5 singles, defeating Larissa Teramura in a contested 7-5 first set. Marais then closed out Teramura in the second set, 6-4. The win was Marais third in singles this season and first playing at No. 5.

Kenzington Mann started her match at No. 3 well, winning the first set 6-1 over Natalia Michta. Following the win, Michta locked-in, winning the next two sets 6-0 to get the point.
