FARMINGTON, Utah — The Big Sky Conference announced on Monday, April 7, that Egypt Caitlin Simmons has been named Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week. This marks Simmons' fourth recognition of the season and her second for the outdoor season after dominating both the triple jump and long jump events.
"The jump queen is at it again," said Erin Tucker, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. "What is a school record to her at this point? It's just another opportunity for her to chase something. It's incredible when you get to compete against yourself, isn't it?!"
Simmons earned her seventh career Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week honor after a record-breaking performance in the triple jump. She shattered both her own school record and the facility record at the Whitworth Peace Meet with a leap of 13.21m. She also claimed first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.19m. This is her fourth honor of the year and second for the outdoor season.
Currently, Simmons ranks first in the Big Sky in the triple jump and is tied for 11th in the NCAA. She also leads the Big Sky in the long jump and is tied for 31st in the NCAA.
