Nolan Ulm named to the AFCA Good Works Team

The redshirt-senior from Kelowna, B.C. has an extensive community service profile

NORTHBOOK, Ill.  — Throughout his career at Eastern Washington, Nolan Ulm excelled on the field, in the classroom and in giving back to the community. Now in his senior season, Ulm is earning national recognition. Ulm was named to the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, honoring student-athletes and coaches who have an extraordinary commitment to community service. 

The 2025 Good Works Team is selected by a voting panel of former Good Works Team members, head coaches and journalists. In total, 22 student-athletes earned the honor, with 11 from the FBS and 11 from the FCS, Division II and III. The student-athletes were joined by the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, Brent Venables. 


Ulm was selected from a pool of 195 total nominees and he is the first recipient of the honor in EWU history. 


Giving back to the community, Ulm commits his time to a range of projects. He works with Mamas for Mamas, since 2022, in his hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia that focuses on supporting single mothers who are facing various poverty-related struggles He helped raise $15000 for the organization last year and has raised $7500 this year. 

Ulm also volunteers for Helping Captive, which helps victims of human trafficking in Spokane. The senior has been working with the organization since '22 and raised $1100. In addition, Ulm volunteers with the Spokane YMCAs, assisting with their Touchdowns for Dollars campaign. Nolan helped organize his teammates' parents to donate money to the organization based on how many touchdowns Eastern Washington scored throughout the season. He also helps raise awareness for the organization through wearing gear and social media posts. 


Ulm maintains his commitment to his hometown, organizing the Make it Happen Football camp every year. He works as the main coordinator of the camp which aims to educate and empower young Canadian athletes. Ulm responsibilities include scheduling coaches, including some of his EWU teammates, and their travel. He coordinates in partnership with NFL Canada, along with scheduling the fields for the event, creating the practice plans, organizing and directing the marketing strategy for the camp. 


While making an impact in the community, Ulm has maintained a high level of play on the field. During his time on the Red, Ulm has played in 48 games, making 22 starts through the current season. He has 99 catches for 1175 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 2024 season was Ulm's most productive, catching 45 passes for 564 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was named to Phil Steele's 2023 All-Big Sky fourth team. 


Prior to the 2025 season, Ulm was named to Steele's preseason All-Big Sky second team. He has 9 catches for 73 through three games this season.


The Canadian Football League Scouting Bureau has listed Ulm among its top
Canadian born prospects the past two seasons. 

In the classroom, Ulm has carried over his success, earning four Big Sky All-Academic honors.


Ulm was elected a team captain for the second consecutive year this past offseason.


About the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.


The Southeastern Conference (SEC) leads all conferences with 91 selections to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team since it began in 1992. The SEC is followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference with 58 selections and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 45 selections. Georgia is in first place with 24 honorees to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The Bulldogs are followed by Kentucky and Bethel (Minn.) with 19 honorees.
