CHENEY, Wash. – Director of Track and Field / Cross Country
Erin Tucker announced Monday, Sept. 29, that Karson Hahn has been named the Assistant Coach for Cross Country / Mid and Long Distance for the Eagles.
"After a grueling nationwide search that started in mid-August, I am extremely excited to welcome Karson Hahn to Eastern Washington University," said Tucker. "The search committee hit a home run with this hire! I was extremely intentional in bringing someone into this conference that had a lot of experience coaching elite middle- and long-distance runners. We got that in Karson for sure. We knew immediately in our first conversation he was the guy—from his enthusiasm to his training philosophy, and his ability to develop. Karson is impressive, and I know our student-athletes that run the 800m and up are going to be in great hands."
Hahn joins Eastern after two years at UMass Lowell, where he served as assistant track and cross country coach. With the River Hawks, he directed training for men's middle-distance athletes, assisted with all other distance groups, coordinated recruiting, and helped manage major competitions, including the NCAA Indoor Championships and the Northeast Cross Country Regional.
"Firstly, I want to say thank you to Coach Tucker for bringing me into the EWU family," said Hahn. "I'm excited for the opportunity to mentor such a motivated and talented group of Student-Athletes at this exceptional university. Go Eags!!!"
Before his time at UMass Lowell, Hahn spent a season at Binghamton University as an assistant coach, leading recruiting efforts, supporting student-athlete academics, and ensuring NCAA compliance. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Purdue University, working with both the men's and women's programs while developing national recruiting pipelines.
Hahn began his coaching career at the University of Tennessee at Martin as a graduate assistant coach while completing his master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Nutrition. He earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Eastern Illinois University and holds dual associate degrees in Arts and Science from Rend Lake College.
With experience across several Division I programs and a proven ability to recruit and develop talent, Hahn brings a wealth of knowledge to Cheney. He received his Bachelors in Science from Eastern Illinois University and his master in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
"EWU got better, and I cannot wait to see Karson and his group rewrite the record books and score tons of points at the Big Sky Conference meets," added Tucker. "I am also looking forward to seeing NCAA XC Qualifiers, 1st Round Qualifiers, and NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Qualifiers come out of that group. Stay tuned—Eastern is coming!"
