Eagles miss against the Bengals on the road

Eastern Washington could not build a winning streak during the final road trip

4/10/2026 3:14:00 PM

POCATELLO, Idaho — Eastern Washington women's tennis played its second-to-last road match this season, playing Idaho State on Friday morning. The Bengals defeated the Eagles, 5-2, winning four singles matches and taking the doubles point for the home victory. EWU drops to 3-3 in the Big Sky and 9-8 overall this season.

"We played outside today, which was good, but it was just different conditions. We have to get used to playing outside. I think we fought pretty well, but we just fell short on a few of the matches," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "I think we're right there, and I know Idaho State is doing pretty well this year. Every conference match seems like a battle, so hopefully we can learn from some of the things today that we could've done better. We can take that into our match on Sunday. With just a couple of more matches, I'm hoping to finish the regular season strong."

ISU won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to take the early lead over Eastern.

The Bengals moved closer to clinching the match with singles wins at No. 4 and No. 6.

Zoe Pradel kept the Eagles alive at No. 3, defeating Asern Shoybek in two sets, including a tiebreaker in the first.

At No. 5 singles, ISU clinched the match win as Sydney Morris defeated Olivia Marais in two sets.

Anait Arutiunian gave Eastern its second point of the match at No. 2 singles, defeating Stefanya Shalakhova in three sets.

"Congrats to our number two and three singles in Anait and Zoe. They played really well to get their wins outside today," Hinson added. "Doubles was a tough battle with us getting No. 2. We were close at No. 1 and 3, but just a couple of really close games that we lost today that made the difference."
