CHENEY, Wash. — Senior Day was a success for Eastern Washington women's tennis as the team closed out the regular season with a victory. Eastern defeated Idaho, 6-1, sweeping all singles matches after dropping the doubles point. The Eagles conclude the regular season with 5-3 Big Sky record and 11-8 overall.

Prior to the win, Eastern celebrated its three seniors, Anait Arutiunian, Leandra Nizetic and Sara Vasic, in a pre-match ceremony.

"My challenge to the team was that champions respond to difficult situations, and when your down, respond like a champion. I thought they all obviously did that today," head coach Dustin Hinson explained. "To come out and get all six singles matches; I'm very proud, especially on senior day for the seniors who have put in time and worked so hard. I'm proud of the whole team because they just have that extra special something that they want to put in the work and do what it takes to come out on top. They want to show they have what it takes to come out on top through training and in matches. Just the championship demeanor of this team just embodies that."

The Vandals opened with a 1-0 lead after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Moving to singles, Zoe Pradel quickly tied the match for EWU with a two-set win at No. 3 over Hanna Koprowska.

The Eagles took control of the match after Anait Arutiunian and Veronika Gayevyk won their matches at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Arutiunian, playing her final match at home, defeated Naomi Schraeder 9-7 in the second-set tiebreaker to take the point.

Eastern then clincehed the match as Olivia Marais and Leandra Nizetic each won their singles matches. Marais won in two sets, with Niexeti winning in three.

Aneliss Zamfirescu added the exclamation point at No. 6 singles, defeating Valentina Rodas (0-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-8).

EWU will be the No. 4 seed in the Big Sky Championships starting next week.

"We haven't een champions in this conference, but we knw the championship behavor before becoming champions. We've got to take that to heart and we show it every day," Hinson added
