LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — Eastern Washington men's golf finished its spring season in Arizona at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Wednesday, playing at the Wigwam Golf Course. EWU placed sixth with a total score of 868 (+4) for the three-day competition.

"The first year of having Eagle golf back since 2002 most certainly showed some areas of promise and also pointed out some things that need improvement and need to be changed moving forward," head coach Russell Grove said. "Unfortunately, for this week at Conference, our first-round score cost us, setting us pretty far behind. However, the guys battled back in the last two rounds and posted some solid team scores.  I'm proud of how the guys fought for every shot until the very end."

Eastern had two Eagles place inside the top 20, led by Big Sky Freshman of the Year Cal Anderson at 15th after shooting +1 in Arizona. Lucas Hughes finished right behind Anderson in 16th (+2). Jason Bustos and Hogan Park both tied for 21st on the individual leaderboard at +6.

The Eagles started day one with Eli McNelly leading the team after shooting a round of 74 (+2). Anderson and Bustos both posted 75 (+3) rounds to open the tournament.

The scoring continued into round two as Bustos, Park, and Hughes all finished in red numbers, with Bustos finishing his two days even in 11th. Bustos had the best round of the second day with a 69 (-3).

Round three proved to be another solid round with Hughes shooting 68 (-4), and helping to propel him up the leaderboard to 16th. Anderson finished with a round of 70 (-2), placing him 15th on the leaderboard.

Sacramento State won the team title with a final score of 841. The Hornets' Gabriel Smith took home the solo title with a score of -9 (207).
