CHENEY, Wash. — With only one sport remaining in the 2025-26 athletic calendar, Eastern Washington University Athletics track and field heads to Portland for the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Portland State University from May 14-17.
Track and Field – at Big Sky Championships (Wednesday - Saturday May 14 - 16, All Day)
The Eagles head to the Big Sky Championships, hosted by Portland State University in Portland, from May 14-17. Competition begins Wednesday with the multis in the heptathlon and decathlon before concluding Thursday. Individual events open Friday with the men's javelin and women's high jump at 10 a.m., while track events begin at 1 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase. Saturday's final day starts with the men's discus, men's high jump, and women's triple jump in the field, while the 4x100m relays open the track schedule.
Eastern enters the championships with seven athletes ranked inside the Big Sky top five. Maddy Shekhawat leads the conference in the 110m hurdles, while Merci Migani sits second in the triple jump. Jordyn Grady ranks third in the 400m hurdles, Shai Gray is third in the long jump, and Cort Gebbers is third in the discus. Zoe Dunn enters the weekend fourth in the triple jump, while Azaria Purdy ranks fifth.
The Eagles head into postseason competition with momentum after strong performances at the OSU High Performance Invite and Desert Heat Classic. At OSU, Lexi Meyer broke her own school record in the 800m with a time of 2:08.80, while Ifechi Okoye moved to fourth all-time at Eastern in the event. Sara Sanders climbed to No. 5 in program history in the 1500m, and the women's 4x400m relay team earned a victory.
In the field events, Zoe Dunn won the triple jump with a PR that moved her to third all-time at Eastern while also posting a PR in the long jump. Koda Woodard added a personal best in the shot put, and Henry Nelson moved into ninth all-time in the men's 800m.
At the Desert Heat Classic, the women's 4x100m relay team moved to No. 2 in program history. Judith Koumedzina climbed to fourth all-time in the 100m and second all-time in the 200m, while Jordyn Grady moved into second all-time in the 400m hurdles. Melia Middleton also recorded a PR performance in the hurdles.
On the men's side, the 4x100m relay team moved into fifth all-time, while Kris Phennicie climbed to No. 2 in program history in the 100m after running a PR of 10.36. Cort Gebbers led the field events with a fifth-place finish in the discus.
Eastern now turns its full attention toward competing for conference titles and podium finishes at the Big Sky Championships.
