Six Eagles Set for NCAA West First Rounds in Fayetteville

CHENEY, Wash. — The Eastern Washington track and field team heads to Fayetteville, Ark., this week for the NCAA West First Rounds, with six Eagles competing for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships. Eastern will be represented by five men and one woman across the four-day meet.
 

Track and Field – at NCAA West First Rounds (Wednesday-Saturday, May 27-30 | All Day)

 

Six Eagles will compete this week at the NCAA West First Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark., with spots at the NCAA Championships on the line.
 

Competition begins Wednesday, May 27, with Logan Ashbeck opening things for the Eagles in the javelin at 12 p.m. PST. Maddy Shekhawat follows in the 110-meter hurdles at 4 p.m. PST, while Alex Blecha closes out the opening day in the pole vault at 5 p.m. PST.
 

On Thursday, Jordyn Grady, Eastern's lone female qualifier, will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at 5:25 p.m. PST, looking to punch her ticket to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
 

The Eagles wrap up competition Friday, May 29, with Cort Gebbers competing in the discus at 11 a.m. PST before Merci Migani closes out the week for Eastern in the triple jump at 4 p.m. PST.
 

Blecha put together an impressive outdoor campaign in the pole vault, highlighted by a Big Sky Conference title. He added three more event victories and a third-place finish during the season and enters the regional round ranked No. 37 in the NCAA West Region.
 

Migani delivered a strong season in the triple jump, earning a runner-up finish at the Big Sky Championships while recording four additional top-three finishes throughout the year. He heads into the NCAA West First Round ranked No. 41 in the region.
 

Shekhawat capped off a standout regular season with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at the Big Sky Championships. He collected two event victories during the outdoor campaign and currently ranks No. 32 in the NCAA West Region.
 

Ashbeck recorded a sixth-place finish in the javelin at the Big Sky Championships and secured two event wins during the outdoor season. He enters the regional meet ranked No. 44 in the West Region.
 

Grady earned bronze in the 400-meter hurdles at the Big Sky Championships while tallying three podium finishes during the outdoor season. She currently ranks No. 42 in the NCAA West Region.
 

Gebbers highlighted his outdoor season with a third-place finish in the discus at the Big Sky Championships while also collecting four event victories throughout the year. He enters the NCAA West First Round ranked No. 47 in the NCAA West Region.
