Eagles take on Cougars at 6:05 p.m.

LIVE STATS | WATCH | GAME THREE NOTES

CHENEY, Wash. –
For the first time this season, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team will play in front of a home crowd at Reese Court on Friday (Nov. 17) as they play host to BYU. Tip-off is set for 6:05 p.m. and can be watched on WatchBigSky.com or Pluto TV Ch. 234.

After dropping its first game of the season at Fresno State, the Eagles bounced back and defeated Air Force in overtime on Tuesday (Nov. 14) for their first victory of the season, moving to 1-1 on the year. The Cougars are coming off of an 80-72 loss at Washington on Wednesday, but are also 1-1 after defeating Southern Utah in overtime to open the season.

EAGLE LEADERS: The Eagles are paced by Preseason Big Sky MVP, Delaney Hodgins. Hodgins is averaging 28.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest and has two double-doubles on the year. The senior also leads the team in steals (5.5/game) and blocks (2.5/game).

As a team, EWU is shooting .806 from the charity stripe so far this season to rank first in the Big Sky. They're led by Violet Kapri Morrow who is 14-16 from the line this year. In Tuesday's victory at Air Force, Morrow went 9-10 in free throws.

The Eagles have struggled with turning the ball over through the first two games, averaging 27 turnovers per contest. However, they rank second in the conference in steals with 15 of their own per game.

EWU has outrebounded their opponents in both games, pulling down 44 boards per game while their opponents only average 33.5. As a team, Eastern Washington is shooting .361 from field goal range.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS: Through two games, BYU has four players averaging points into double figures. Cassie Devashrayee is averaging 23.5 points per game and is shooting at a .389 clip from three-point range. In addition, Shalae Salmon is pulling down an impressive 16 rebounds per contest while adding 10 points.

BYU is also out-rebounding opponents, 47.0 to 42.5 per contest and is shooting .396 from field-goal range, averaging 73.5 points per contest.

SERIES HISTORY: Friday marks the fourth meeting between the two programs, with EWU trailing the all-time series 1-2. The two teams last squared off on Nov. 26, 2011 where Eastern dropped a 58-77 decision on the road. Eastern's lone win came during the 1994 season.

LAST TIME OUT: In come-from-behind fashion, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team sealed its first victory of the year on Tuesday evening (Nov. 14). The Eagles took on Air Force and topped them 65-63 in overtime after trailing by 10 points at the half.

The Eagles turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and trailed 40-30 heading into the locker room.

Eastern's offensive momentum sparked in the third quarter when they used a 13-1 run over a span of six minutes and began to chip away at their 10-point deficit. EWU's defense was also able to hold the Falcons scoreless for over five minutes and forced five turnovers during that span. With thirty-five seconds remaining in the third quarter, Amy Hartleroad would hit a shot from behind the arc to tie the game, 48-48.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Trailing by three with less than two minutes remaining, the Eagles would call timeout. That's when Symone Starks drilled a three-pointer to tie the game up at 57-57 and send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Hodgins would hit a jumper early on, but two Falcon free throws would make the game even, 61-61. Trailing 63-62 with sixteen seconds remaining, Eastern's luck behind the arc struck again, this time behind the hands of Hodgins who sunk the game-winning three-pointer to win 65-63.

SOARING TO THE TOP: For the second straight game, Delaney Hodgins was one-point shy of her career high, compiling 28 on the night. Her point total moves her to third all-time on Eastern Washington's all-time scoring list. The senior now has 1,484 points in her career, passing Kathleen Nygaard (2001-04) who had 1,466.

Hodgins is now 250 points out of second place and 382 points away from breaking the all-time record of 1,865 set by her older sister Hayley Hodgins (2013-16). She also added 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

UP NEXT: The Eagles hit the road again for a contest at Pac-12 member Oregon on Tuesday (Nov. 21). The Ducks advanced to the Elite 8 last season. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Eugene.
