Women's Tennis

Women's Tennis Host Idaho Tomorrow and Travel to Portland State Saturday

After tommorow, the women's next home match will not be until April 2 against Sacramento State

CHENEY, Wash. -- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team will have a tough match tomorrow against the University of Idaho, who is undefeated in the Big Sky at 4-0. The Vandals sits in first place in the conference with a 7-5 overall record for their statbook.

 Matches will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.  Admission to the matches are free and open to the public.

Last year when Eastern played Idaho, they fell 6-1. The last time the Eagles defeated Idaho was back in 2006 with the Vandals leading the overall series at 35-3 against EWU. The Vandals has been dominant in the Big Sky with their closest match being against North Dakota, where they still won 6-1.

The Eagles are coming off a successful weekend as they defeated Lewis-Clark State on March 3 and San Diego Christian the following day on March 4. This will be Eastern's seventh home match in a row and will be their last one until they return on April 2 against Sacramento State.

Senior Erin Blessing went undefeated on the weekend in both singles and doubles, making her have the best record of the team who has played all eleven matches so far this season. In doubles, Blessing has found success when teamed up with junior Rachel Swindell with their record at 3-0.

Eastern has won the majority point for doubles in the last four matches, giving them the lead every time going into singles action.

The women will enter the match with a 3-8 overall record, 1-1 in the Big Sky. This record puts them in sixth place overall in the conference.

Later in the week, the Eagles will compete against Portland State on Saturday, March 11. PSU sits in last place in the Big Sky with a 0-8 overall record, 0-6 in the conference. The Eagles hold a 21-5 series record against the Vikings.  

Portland State has had some close matches that were decided by only one match, a 3-4 loss, against Montana State, UC Irvine and Weber State. They have also lost to Idaho, Idaho State, Northern Arizona and North Dakota.

Matches will begin at Noon in Vancouver, Wash. where the Vikings host their matches.
