Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Big Sky Competition This Weekend

The Eagles will take on Idaho State on April 15 and continue competition at Weber State the following day on April 16

The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Idaho State on April 15 and Weber State on April 16. The Eagles are currently in seventh place in the Big Sky standings with a 3-4 conference record and 5-11 overall.

In recent news, head coach Dustin Hinson protested a match against Southern Utah to the Big Sky. In result, EWU has now won the match in Cedar City by a team score of 4-3.

The last time Eastern competed was on April 2, losing 6-1 to Sacramento State in Cheney who are in fourth place in the conference standings. The Hornets are now not be eligible to compete in the Big Sky Championships.

Idaho State is currently in fifth place in the Big Sky with a 5-3 conference record and 7-9 overall. ISU is undefeated at home so far this year with a 5-0 record on its own courts. Last year, Eastern lost 5-2 to Idaho State in Cheney. Competition between the two teams dates back to 1984 with ISU leading the series by a small margin of 18-10.

Weber State is in ninth place overall with a 2-5 conference record and is 2-14 overall. The last time EWU defeated Weber State was in 2013 at Ogden, Utah by a team score of 6-1.

After this road trip, the Eagles will close out the regular season at home with two matches next week. Eastern will take on Montana State on April 21 with matches beginning at 3 p.m. EWU will finish the season with competition against the University of Montana on April 23 with matches at 10 a.m.

The Big Sky Championship will take place on April 28-30 in Phoenix, Ariz. with the top six teams in the conference standings earning bids into the tournament. With Sacramento State out of the picture, Eastern Washington is currently sitting in the last spot into the tournament if the season ended today.
