Women's Tennis Loses in a Battle With Idaho State

The Eagles lost 7-0 in Pocatello and will travel to Weber State tomorrow

The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team lost to Idaho State by a team score of 7-0 in Pocatello, Idaho today (April 15). With this loss, EWU's record is 3-5 in the conference and 5-12 overall.

"The girls did a great job with effort and generally wanting it," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "They really stepped up their focus and I can tell they know that they brought their best effort. They fought hard and they are in good spirits heading into tomorrow because they are focused on the right things -- performance and process, rather than results. Big improvement from the past several matches."

One of the doubles teams from Eastern was able to collect a win against ISU. In the No. 3 spot, senior Katrina Domingo and freshman Valentina Sottile defeated their opponents by a score of 6-1.

In singles, the Eagles fought hard but were not able to have a victory on that side of the court. In the No. 1 spot, junior Janaya Smith fought in three sets before falling to her opponent. In the first set she lost 3-6, but came back and won the second set 6-3. In the last set, it was a battle back-and-forth as Smith lost 5-7.

Rounding off the singles competition was freshman Marta Heinen who lost in a tiebreaker in the third set. Heinen lost her first set 4-6 and won her second set 7-5.
