CHENEY, Wash. – Head Eastern Washington University women's tennis coach
Dustin Hinson has announced the addition of Renata Gabuzyan on the first day of the 2019-20 signing period.
"I'm very excited to welcome Renata to the Eagle women's tennis family. She has grown up in a great tennis training environment and she brings a wealth of international tennis experience with her. We had Renata on an official visit a few weeks ago and she fit in with the team right away," said Hinson. "She understands our team culture, she has high academic ambitions, and I know she will make great contributions to our team on and off the court right away."
Gabuzyan was born in Afula, Israel and moved to Canada at the age of six. She currently lives in Richmond, B.C. where she attends Magee Secondary School and trains at the Vancouver International Tennis Academy.
She has won two Provincial titles and has competed at the Canadian Nationals for British Columbia since 2013. In the United States, Gabuzyan has competed in several Junior ITF events. In 2016, she reached the singles semifinals of the Silex Canadian Junior ITF Indoor Champions G5 and the quarterfinals of the Canadian Junior Panorama ITF Indoor Championships G5.
Gabuzyan notes that one of the proudest moments of her young tennis career came last summer when she earned the opportunity to play for Team Canada at the Maccabiah Games in Israel where she was the only player to win Team Canada a medal in junior tennis.
A standout student, Gabuzyan has been named to the honor roll or earned honorable mention for every term since the eighth grade. Beyond tennis, Gabuzyan enjoys volunteering. She intends on majoring in pre-med and biology at Eastern Washington with ambitions of becoming a doctor.
