The Eastern Washington University cross country teams travel to Sacramento,Calif., for the NCAA West Regionals this Friday, Nov. 9.
"We didn't have our best day two weeks ago but we're excited to go back to the same course and redeem ourselves," said head coach
Sam Read 0f EWU's last outing at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Oct. 27. "Everyone is determined to go back and finish the season on a strong note."
The event will be hosted by Sacramento State on the Haggin Oaks golf course. The women's race will be 6,000 meters, while the men race is on an 10,000-meter course.
The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. Pacific Time followed by the men's event at 12 p.m. The awards ceremony will take place after the men's race.
At the Big Sky Championships, sophomore
Isaac Barville was the top finisher for the men followed by freshman
Carter Ledwith and senior
Domenic Rehm.
For the women, sophomore
Lily Tyrrell was the top finisher in 69th followed by senior
Johanna Sherman and freshman
Erika Leinweber
"We've had a really solid season but got hit with some unfortunate sicknesses once the championship races hit," said Read. "We will be missing some runners that have been in our top seven again this week, but we're ready to battle. Each runner will have to step up this week to fill the void."
Last year the men finished 24th while the women placed 21st at the NCAA West Regional.
"The experience from running on the course the previous meet is valuable," said Read. "We know what to except from the course and can concentrate on our race."
