The Big Sky Conference announced the 2019 indoor track and field coaches' preseason polls on Thursday (Jan. 20), as the Eastern Washington University men's and women's teams were both chosen to finish sixth.
"We tend to do better than where we are listed in the polls," said head coach
Marcia Mecklenburg. "With a tie for sixth in the indoor poll, that will be the plan again this year."
Northern Arizona was the unanimous first place selection on the men's and women's side. The Eastern men are tied with Idaho in sixth.
"Coming off a strong outdoor conference championship in Moscow last spring and the quality of the performances at the Candy Cane XI a couple of weeks ago, I feel we're posed to finish much better that what the poll indicates," said head coach
Stan Kerr.
At last year's Big Sky Indoor Championship, the EWU women's team finished in fourth place, while the men took seventh. The Eagles brought back one individual conference championship, and one top-three finish to earn All-Big Sky honors.
Eastern's returning indoor champion is Elizabeth Prouty in the pole vault. The top-three finisher is Parker Bowden, who placed second in the 60-meter hurdles.
The next action for both squads will be at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open set to begin on Friday, Jan. 11 in Moscow, Idaho.
