PULLMAN, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team fell to Washington State 0-7 today (Feb. 24) to put the Eagles 3-5 overall. Eastern will begin conference play next week.
"We didn't execute the way we wanted to today, but credit to WSU for coming out and performing really well," said head coach Dustin Hinson.
In doubles play, Janaya Smith and Rylee Braeden teamed up against Washington State standouts where they ended the match at 5-3 and did not finish. Stephanie Broussard and Rachel Swindell paired up in the No. 2 spot (3-6) as well as Valentina Sottile and Faye Worrall in the No. 3 spot (0-6).
Eastern opened up singles competition with Smith on the first court (0-6, 0-6) and Braeden to follow (3-6, 2-6). Worrall played in the No. 3 spot and fell 1-6, 1-6 as well as Broussard who lost 5-7, 2-6. Swindell (0-6, 1-6) and Sottile (0-6, 2-6) also competed to end the day.
"The non-conference matches have been really good for us and we've learned a lot," said Hinson. "Now we are ready to take what we've gained into conference matches. We are excited to open up conference play next weekend."
