FULL RESULTS
FRESNO, Calif. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team fell to Fresno State today (Mar. 28) 4-3. The Eagles are now 6-8 in overall and 3-1 in conference.
"It was a really great match today against Fresno State," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "We displayed incredible grit in some really tight matches. It came down to a shot or two here and there but we stuck to our game plan really well and showed the kind of effort I was looking for."
Janaya Smith competed on the first court in singles play (3-6, 0-6), followed by Zoey Nelson who lost in three long sets (6-4, 1-6, 5-7). Rylee Braeden tabbed the first Eagle victory in three sets, winning 4-6, 7-6 (2), 1-1, as well as Stephanie Broussard who found success at No. 4 winning 7-6 (4), 6-4. Faye Worrall competed in the No. 5 spot and lost (4-6, 2-6) before Rachel Swindell picked up an Eagle win (6-2, 6-2) to end the overall match 3-4.
Smith and Braeden opened up doubles competition on the first court and lost 2-6. Broussard and Swindell played at No. 3 and fell 0-6, to leave Nelson and Worrall in an unfinished match with the Eagles in the lead, 5-4.
The Eagles continue competition with a conference match against Sacramento State on Friday (Mar. 30) at 3 p.m. "We are looking forward to another tough conference battle on Friday," said Hinson.
